FORD FAM FEATURE: DECLAN DOREY – “RIOT” THE RED EDITION FIESTA

Driver Introduction

Name: Declan Dorey
Location: Kent
Profession: Delivery Driver

From childhood nights watching Fast & Furious and Top Gear, Declan was hooked on speed, sound, and style. His first car? A Ford EcoBoost—affectionately known to many as an “ecoboom”—and that was just the beginning. Inspired by Brian O’Connor and fueled by pure passion, Declan’s journey is all about building a Ford that’s unapologetically his own.

The Vehicle: 2016 Ford Fiesta Zetec S Red Edition

Nickname: Riot
Build Goal: Boy racer meets street machine

With plans for a full ST conversion and aesthetic touches that scream uniqueness, “Riot” is more than just a Zetec S—it’s a rolling personality. One of the most standout mods so far? A custom quad-tipped valved exhaust to keep the neighbors—and the horses—happy, and quad hex halo headlights that give it serious attitude on the road.

Modifications & Performance

Engine & Performance:

  • K&N Filter
  • Turbosmart BOV
  • Custom Quad Valved Exhaust (by Powerflow)

Suspension:

  • Pending upgrades

Brakes & Wheels:

  • Pending upgrades

Estimated Power: 140 HP (stock)
0-60 & ¼ Mile: N/A

Despite some recent battles with a boost leak and an icy crash that cost over £900 in repairs, Declan’s solution is classic Ford Fam spirit: swap in an ST180 engine and come back stronger.

Challenges & Community

From nearly losing a wheel due to loose lugs to dodging the critics of 1.0L engines, Declan’s had his fair share of setbacks—but none strong enough to kill his momentum. Instead, each problem became fuel for the build and a reason to connect more deeply with the Ford community.

He runs two clubs himself and is a member of several others, showing just how central car culture is to his life. The highlight? Getting a compliment from a GTR R35 owner—the kind of moment that reminds you you’re on the right path.

Looking Ahead

The next phase?

  • Full ST conversion
  • Lowline kit & alloys
  • Engine upgrades & remaps

And one very specific long-term goal: Beat Shane Moore’s Fiesta (@just_a_couple_of_fords) in a race. Challenge accepted?

Words of Wisdom

“If you drive an ecoboom? Own it. 100/125/140 HP stock from a 1L engine is INSANE. Yes, they’re not the most reliable. BUT they are loads of fun to drive!”

Declan reminds us to build with purpose, ignore the noise, and remember—“People will hate on your car no matter what. Some are jealous, some don’t have responsibilities. Just do what makes you happy.”

Closing Thoughts

For Declan, the best part of the build isn’t just the mods—it’s the people he’s met and the community that’s welcomed him.

“Build your car the way YOU want to. If we wanted to be sheep we would have gotten a BMW. Thanks for making me part of the family!”
