Ford Fam Feature: Floyd Jones & His Stealthy ST3

Meet Floyd Jones, the tech-savvy Ford fan turning heads with his bold red Focus ST3. From daily driver to future showstopper, his build is just getting started—stealthy mods, big dreams, and a passion powered by heart and horsepower.

From Hot Hatch Dreams to Real-World Mods

For Floyd Jones, cars weren’t always the centre of his world—but that all changed three years ago when he made his first leap into the Ford scene. What started as a search for a stylish, practical daily turned into something bigger: a passion, a hobby, and now, a growing build that reflects who he is.

“I wanted a nice looking hot hatch that I could daily to work, but also work on and modify,” Floyd explains.

Based in the UK and working as an ICT Technician, Floyd has found a way to blend his technical problem-solving mindset with the joy of building something personal. And it doesn’t hurt that his wife is just as passionate about cars—something that’s helped drive the journey even further.

Meet Theredst3: Floyd’s 2017 Focus ST3

Now at the heart of it all is Floyd’s 2017 Ford Focus ST3, affectionately known online as @theredst3. Since picking it up just a month ago, the build is still in its early stages—but the vision is crystal clear.

He’s already started with clean cosmetic touches, including:

  • Rear window and light tints from Tint Team Middlesbrough for a stealthier look
  • Performance air filter for a slight edge in sound and breathability

But the real plans are just around the corner.

A Build in Progress

Floyd’s goal? A well-rounded, powerful, and stylish ST3 that stands out at meets and tears up the street when called upon. Performance upgrades planned for 2025 include:

  • Cold air induction kit
  • Intercooler
  • Miltek exhaust system
  • Sports cat
  • Lowering springs
  • Full splitter kit
  • Stage 1 or 2 remap

All with the aim of pushing the car over 300bhp, up from its current stock figures of 246bhp and 345Nm.

“It’s going to take time,” Floyd says, “but I’m excited for the journey.”

More Than Mods: A Community Connection

Floyd’s story isn’t just about performance and polish. His Ford journey is also about people, connection, and shared passion.

“My wife and I enjoy going to car shows and meets. It’s great to talk about cars at work too. The conversation never ends,” he shares.

Now a member of the ST Owners Club, Floyd is looking forward to events like Ford Fest later this year. One of his favourite memories? Driving his wife’s pink-wrapped Abarth 124 Spider to a show, only to see the surprise (and slight disappointment) on people’s faces when they realised it wasn’t a glamorous woman behind the wheel. “Priceless,” he laughs.

From Diesel Doubts to Petrol Power

This isn’t Floyd’s first Focus ST. He previously owned a 2015 diesel ST, which received more than a few cheeky digs from the community. But for Floyd, it was the practical choice—something that could handle big mileage while still offering some driving fun.

Now, with the petrol ST3 in hand, he’s fully enjoying the step-up. And even with some initial criticism over his car choices, he’s learned to stay true to his build.

“People say, ‘Why didn’t you get an RS?’ or ‘Why not this or that?’ But it’s not about what they’d do. It’s my build. I’m doing what I like.”

Building With Purpose

There are no wild overnight transformations here. Floyd’s approach is all about thoughtful upgrades, researched decisions, and enjoyment through the process.

Whether it’s saving up for the next part, discussing ideas with the community, or simply catching someone’s eye in traffic—this is what the Ford lifestyle is all about.

“The most rewarding part has been buying it and calling it mine. Knowing I can do what I want with it… and of course, when someone says ‘I like your car’ or you catch someone staring as you drive past—that makes it worth it.”

Floyd’s Advice to the Ford Fam

“Research what you want to do—but remember, it’s your build. If it’s against the norm and you love it, go for it. As long as it’s safe, what’s the issue? Ignore the noise and just enjoy it.”

And most importantly?

“Thank you to the Ford Fam for being so welcoming. I’ve enjoyed seeing everyone else’s cars, and I can’t wait to keep growing this project.”
