James’s relationship with Ford began soon after passing his driving test. “It’s always been Ford for me,” he explains, and his current Mk2 Focus RS—a 2010 model with Mountune’s MR375 upgrade—embodies the pinnacle of his automotive journey. “I’ve always admired the Mk2 RS,” James says. “It’s got character, power, and a heritage that’s hard to beat.”
James’s Mk2 RS isn’t just another modified car—it’s an award-winning machine. The MR375 Clubsport package has elevated its performance to elite levels, earning him the coveted “Best Modified RS” title at the 2024 RSOC Rallye at the River in Banchory. But the journey didn’t stop there. His car club, North East Car Enthusiasts, also clinched second place for “Best Car Club,” a testament to their collective passion and dedication.
“When I saw the trophy for Best Modified RS, it was surreal,” James recalls. “It’s a team effort, though. My clubmates, my supporters—they’ve all been part of this journey.”
James’s Mk2 RS is a showcase of meticulous upgrades. Powered by a five-cylinder turbocharged Volvo engine, the car features Mountune’s MR375 package, including a high-flow induction kit, upgraded intercooler, and a full Milltek exhaust system. The result? A beast that roars to life with every press of the throttle.
Beyond performance, the car boasts OZ Racing wheels and Recaro bucket seats, blending functionality with style. “The goal was to build a car that performs as well as it looks,” James says. “It’s about balance—power, handling, and aesthetics.”
For James, cars are more than just machines—they’re a source of solace and motivation. “It’s been a rough road lately,” he admits. “But having a car like this, something to focus on, has been a huge help for my mental health.”
James openly shares his journey with mental health on social media, using his platform to encourage others to keep pushing forward. “Courage doesn’t always roar,” he says. “Sometimes, it’s the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’”
James’s connection to the Ford community runs deep. As a co-host of North East Car Enthusiasts, he plays a vital role in organising events, fostering friendships, and celebrating the collective love for cars. “The camaraderie is unmatched,” he says. “We share tips, stories, and laughs—it’s about lifting each other up.”
His Instagram presence has grown steadily, with over 1,400 followers engaging with his journey. “It’s not just about the followers,” James explains. “It’s about the connections. Seeing people support each other in the community is what makes it all worthwhile.”
While the car show season may be on pause for now, James is already gearing up for the next big event. “It’s been a great year, but I’m always looking forward to the next show with the squad,” he says. His Mk2 RS will also undergo further refinements, ensuring it remains a standout in the Ford scene.
And as for future aspirations? “Maybe one day, I’ll add a Mk1 Escort to the collection,” he muses. “But for now, the Focus RS is my pride and joy.”
